When choosing a pet-friendly cottage, it is important to do some research in advance. We will explain the checkpoints to avoid regrets after arriving.

Check the rules for allowing pets

When choosing a pet-friendly cottage, it's important to check the accommodation's rules before booking. First, check to see if there are any breed or weight restrictions. Large dogs or dog breeds considered dangerous may be refused accommodation.

Some facilities may require you to show proof of vaccinations or rabies shots. If your dog cannot be vaccinated due to old age or illness, some lodging facilities will accommodate you by presenting a "certificate of deferment" from a veterinary hospital doctor, so be sure to check in advance.

Check the range you can bring along

Once you meet the accommodation requirements, the next thing to check is the area where you can bring your companion. Pets may not be allowed in common areas or may be required to be kept in a bag or carrier. Make sure to practice beforehand.

Additionally, in many cases, guests are not allowed to accompany guests to restaurants or hot springs within the facility. Some facilities offer a service where you can keep your dog while the owner is out, but in most cases the dog will be kept in the guest room. If your dog doesn't like being out of sight of its owner, it's best to avoid these types of accommodations.

Also, be sure to check how you spend your time in your room. Some facilities require you to keep your pet in a cage in your room. Even in facilities where you can spend free time, you may not be allowed to sit on the sofa or bed, or you may not be allowed to enter the bedroom.

Choose a facility that matches your dog's personality

It is important to choose accommodations that match your dog's personality. If your dog doesn't like being left alone, we recommend a facility where they can eat together, a facility where they can sit on your bed if they usually sleep with you, and a facility with a private dog run if they don't like being around other dogs.

If you are going to travel with your dog, choose a lodging that will be stress-free for your dog. In addition, if you rent out a whole cottage, you can spend plenty of time with your dog without being disturbed by anyone.

Toki Resort Hills Terrace Hakodate has only 8 independent villas in a vast grassland spread across the northern land. There is a hot spring bath in the room, so you can spend a relaxing time looking out at the spectacular view from the window without having to leave your dog at home.

There are two types of rooms: villa type and deluxe villa type with loft. There is a promenade on the premises where you can take your dog for a walk, and nearby Onuma Quasi-National Park, where you can take your dog along, so you can refresh yourself while enjoying nature.

However, you are not allowed to accompany your child to the restaurant, so if you plan on using the restaurant, please make sure that you are able to stay at home. If you want to spend time with your dog during mealtimes, we recommend bringing your favorite ingredients and enjoying a BBQ in your room.
