If you're thinking, "If I'm going to travel to Japan, I want to spend some time relaxing while looking at Mt. Fuji," then we recommend Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture."Mt. Shakushi Gateway Camp"It takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes by car from central Tokyo to the facility. My husband and I drove from Tokyo to the facility by rental car and were able to fully enjoy both the spectacular view of Mt. Fuji and the surrounding sightseeing.zzldailyHere, I will report on my experience staying at Shakushiyama Gateway Camp for two days and one night.

If you are heading to Shakushiyama Gateway Camp from Tokyo, the facility is about 15 minutes from the Fujiyoshida Nishikatsura Smart IC. If you are heading from Kawaguchiko IC, it is about a 20-minute drive.
Unfortunately, it was raining on the day we headed there in mid-May, but there was no traffic jam and we were able to arrive there smoothly by rental car from Tokyo.
You don't have to drive long distances along mountain roads to get to the facility, and it's well-marked, so you can get there without getting lost.
The first thing that catches your eye when you arrive at the facility is the majestic Mount Fuji towering directly in front of you.

All guest rooms at Shakushiyama Gateway Camp offer a view of Mount Fuji, and you can enjoy the spectacular view from every building. You can enjoy the view of Mount Fuji, which changes its appearance depending on the time of day and the weather, throughout your stay.
The facility has free parking, and the staff greeted us with a smile as soon as we arrived.
I relaxed as I went through the check-in process, chose the times for dinner and breakfast and the time I wanted to use the private bath, and was then given detailed instructions on where the toilets, shower rooms, and baths were located.
Finally, I was shown to my room and was given an explanation of the facilities in the room, and I was impressed by the overall attentive service.
If you're new to glamping, you might feel a little nervous about the unfamiliar environment, but the staff are very polite, so feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Shakushiyama Gateway Camp has seven types of rooms, including Deluxe Twin, Premium Twin, and Grand Suite. My husband and I chose the "Luxury 4-Bed"I chose.
This room is located near the reception desk and is described as being located high up on the premises, offering a spectacular view.
The bed mattress felt a little damp, probably due to the heavy rainfall before we arrived, but the room was generally comfortable.
The room is equipped with an ice bucket and camping tables and chairs, giving it a camping atmosphere.
After arriving at our room, we immediately prepared an ice bucket and took a break with some local beer and snacks we had purchased on the way to the facility. The view from our room was amazing, with Mount Fuji right in front of us, and we enjoyed taking photos.
There are apparently a variety of activities available around the facility, including kayaking, bicycle rentals, and cruising, but unfortunately the weather was bad on the day we checked in. Although we didn't participate in any activities this time, we were able to see the "Red Fuji" dyed red by the sunset in the evening, and enjoy the night view at night.
Although bonfires are not permitted, there were fireworks on the day we stayed, which made for a very memorable experience.

The rooms and facilities are generally clean.
There is a sink near the toilet room, and although there may be a lot of insects at night, the toilet was clean and I was able to use it comfortably.
The shower room and bath were very clean, and basic amenities such as bath towels and toothbrushes were provided, so I was able to use them without any problems.

The dinner menu at Shakushiyama Gateway Camp was shabu-shabu.
The meat was presented in the shape of Mt. Fuji, and the bowls were all in the same color as Mt. Fuji, creating a visually striking effect. It was so beautiful that I couldn't help but take photos.

If I were to be greedy, I would have liked a little more variety in the types of sauces and side dishes, but the quality of the meat itself was good and it was delicious with plenty of flavor.
This time we enjoyed the shabu-shabu menu, but for Taiwanese tourists, camping is all about barbecues.
At the BBQ at Shakushiyama Gateway Camp, you can enjoy the brand pork Koshu Fujizakura Pork and hot skillet dishes that change daily, so next time I'd like to experience a barbecue while relaxing and enjoying the view of Mt. Fuji.

On the second day, in the early morning, we were able to see the fantastic sight of the base of Mt. Fuji shrouded in mist, and we also got to see the "Red Fuji" dyed in the morning sun. This was the view that impressed me the most.
At breakfast that followed, the chef prepared scrambled eggs right in front of us, and we enjoyed the freshly made scrambled eggs.
I think the breakfast would have been more memorable if there had been explanations and illustrations about the menu and the origins of the ingredients, but the breakfast was very filling, with four slices of bread provided. The sausages served as a side dish were also very tasty.
The experience at the glamping facility is quite satisfying, but another attraction of Shakushiyama Gateway Camp is the abundance of sights in the surrounding area.
About a 20-minute drive from the facility towards Lake Kawaguchiko is the "Tabi no Eki Kawaguchiko Base," where we stopped off before arriving at the glamping facility. It had a wide selection of local beers and wines, and seemed like a convenient spot for sourcing local ingredients perfect for a glamping BBQ, as well as souvenirs.
Fujiyoshida City is also home to Montepino, a gelato shop that's only open on weekends, and Bright Blue Brewing, a craft beer shop, both of which were great to stop by before checking in.
After checking out, we were able to enjoy the moss pinks at Fuji Motosu Lake Resort.

Although it's a little far from the glamping facility, on the way back to Tokyo we also took a detour towards Kofu, where we were able to stop by the famous soba restaurant "Juwaritei" and the home-roasting coffee shop "AKITO COFFEE", which was great.

On the way back, we got caught in traffic and it took a while to arrive, but we were able to stop by the 98wines Winery, which has a great view, and it was a very satisfying trip where we enjoyed the journey from Tokyo as well.
There are other famous tourist spots near Shakushiyama Gateway Camp, such as Fuji-Q Highland, Arakurayama Sengen Park and Chureito Pagoda, and Oshino Hakkai, so if you want to take your time exploring the area, we recommend staying a few days and relaxing.

Shakushiyama Gateway Camp has four types of private open-air baths with natural mineral springs. This time, we used the largest bath on the premises, Tenku no Yu.
If you wish to use a private bath, you can make a reservation at the reception desk.

This trip was also a road trip in a rental car, so one of the things I enjoyed was not just relaxing within the facility, but also stopping off at places that I had been interested in while traveling.
There are also a variety of activities available around the facility, so if you want to fully enjoy the outdoors, it might be a good idea to try one of these experiences.
When planning a trip to Japan, many people who visit Mount Fuji may feel anxious, thinking, "What if I go all the way there and can't see Mount Fuji?"
However, at Shakushiyama Gateway Camp, you can take your time from check-in to check-out and enjoy the various changes in the appearance of Mount Fuji depending on the time of day and weather.
What impressed me the most was the red Mount Fuji dyed in the morning glow and the mystical Mount Fuji shrouded in mist. These are views that only those who stay at the facility can experience.
This time we changed to a shabu-shabu dinner, but the BBQ course seems to use plenty of local ingredients, so I think it would be recommended for travelers from Taiwan as well.
The facility is close to Lake Kawaguchi and has good transportation access, making it easy to combine with sightseeing.
Our stay at Shakushiyama Gateway Camp provided us with a travel experience where we were able to fully enjoy the spectacular views of Mt. Fuji and sightseeing in the surrounding area.
