In central Osaka and Kobe, snow can fall from January to February when strong cold air masses move south. However, actual snow accumulation in urban areas is rare throughout the year. Rokko Snow Park is one of the leading ski resorts in the Kansai region, easily accessible from the city centers of Osaka and Kobe. Located about an hour's drive from Osaka city, it's also known as one of the earliest ski resorts in Japan to introduce artificial snowmaking. Situated on Mount Rokko at an altitude of approximately 1,000 meters, it boasts a stable snow-playing environment thanks to its artificial snowmaking facilities. Biwako Valley Ski Resort is located around Mt. Horai in Shiga Prefecture, at an altitude of approximately 1,100m. It is about a 40-minute drive from Kyoto East Interchange and about 1 hour and 30 minutes from Osaka. The resort has several varied courses, and even those who don't ski can enjoy the snowy scenery and panoramic views of Lake Biwa from the "Biwako Terrace" at the top of the mountain.
