Speaking of Oita/Beppu, it goes without saying that it is a hot spring resort that represents Kyushu. It is one of Japan's leading hot spring resorts, boasting the highest number of hot springs in the country as well as the amount of water flowing out.A glamping facility will open on April 4th!
Glamping in the steamy town of Beppu...?It's hard to get an image just by listening to it.
So, let's go to the place to actually experience the unprecedented and innovative combination of "Yunomachi x Glamping"!Seeing is believing.
table of contents
Grancia Beppu Kannawa is a glamping facility that just opened on April 4th.It is about a two-hour drive from Fukuoka City, and if you turn right at the Beppu IC exit and go down the slope, you will see a distinctive white dome tent in the distance. They couldn't help but cheer, "That's it!" and arrived at the facility while having fun. It seems like it takes about 27 minutes to get to the facility after getting off the IC, and before you know it, a white tent appears in front of you.
When you get out of the car, the first thing you notice is the smell of sulfur. The steam rising from the facility will make you feel like you're traveling again, thinking, "I've come to Beppu Onsen!"
After checking in at the front desk, immediately go to your room.But...huh?I can't find that white dome tent. The doors to each guest room look more like an inn than a glamping facility. What on earth is going on? !
When you open the front door, there is a dining space (outdoor dining) on the right as soon as you enter the entrance. As you continue down the passage towards your room, you will find the guest room hot spring on your left.And... when you finally open the door to the room, it turns out to be a tent!It was made to look like a regular inn guest room, but when you entered it was actually a tent, which was a fun trick.
Moreover, the ceiling inside the tent is high, giving it a spacious and open feel. The most eye-catching thing is the view from the skeleton window, which looks like it's half a tent.
The dome tent has 14 rooms of different sizes, and the views vary depending on the room. From the Type A room (6 meters in diameter) where we stayed, the trees of Kannawa Jigokuchi Park lined up in front of us, creating a view full of greenery.
According to the staff, you can see Mt. Ogiyama from Type B and C, which are 6 meters in diameter, and Type Grande, which is 10 meters in diameter, and you can also see the steamy town at its base.
The interiors of the dome tents vary from tent to tent, with some having a natural feel, others a little chic, and others with a Japanese feel or pastel colors.
By the way, Grancia Beppu Kannawa also has two types of tents (2 meters and 6 meters in diameter) where you can stay with your dog.It also has a very large dog run.I have to tell my friends who own dogs!
After relaxing in your room, the next step is to explore the facility.First, we headed to the BBQ Garden, which has a space where you can enjoy BBQ for day use. There is a corner here where you can experience Jigokumushi!Guests can get a basket of their favorite vegetables free of charge at the Vegetable Marche, so they can procure them under the guidance of the staff and put them into the hell kiln for hell steaming.Eggs are also sold for 1 yen each, so I tried making Jigokumushi with them.
Vegetables are ready in about 10 minutes, and eggs are boiled in about 96 minutes. The taste of the vegetables that were steamed at XNUMX degrees was completely different from that of home-cooked vegetables, perhaps because the flavor of the ingredients was brought out to their fullest, or perhaps because of the added sulfur content.By the way, the vegetables you get at the vegetable marche can also be used for BBQ.
As the sun begins to set, it's time for the long-awaited dinner! It will be served in the dining area of your room. The weather was nice that day, and it didn't get too cold in the evening, so we opened the sliding door to the dining area and moved the table outside. The dining space is connected to the outside deck by opening the sliding door, so when the weather is nice, you should enjoy BBQ while feeling the outside air and looking at the scenery!
The food that was delivered to me can only be described as gorgeous. It seems that they are very particular about the ingredients, and the table was filled with dishes made with fresh ingredients from Kyushu, with a focus on Wagyu beef and seafood from Oita Prefecture.Of course the meat and sausage are delicious, but the skillet that can be easily cooked on the BBQ grill is also delicious! In particular, the Japanese-style paella, with its dashi stock made from local red sea bream and the flavor of the seafood permeating the rice, was enough to make me want a second helping.
Moreover, the BBQ menu is full of volume. After dinner, I wanted to lie down in a hammock and take a rest, but glamping nights are full of fun! This is not the time to sleep.
yes! After dinner, I heard that there would be a bonfire and a live performance of Shinobue in the plaza.Apparently the manager of Grancia Beppu Kannawa is a former member of Drum TAO.Drum TAO is a famous Japanese drumming group based in Oita Prefecture.Live performances are held irregularly, so I was really lucky to hear the manager play the shinobue.
On this day, the performance included classic Disney songs, current songs such as ``Come Spring'' and ``Gurenge,'' as well as nostalgic songs from a while ago.The swaying flames and the sound of the shinobue in the darkness of the night are so romantic and dreamlike that your heart will be transported to another world.I guess this is the feeling that is called extraordinary.
Another recommendation is the glamping cafe BAR "entrance cafe FIKA" located at the front desk. This is a glamping cafe BAR produced by Shinya Maruta, a sake coordinator who also produces Oita's popular local sake specialty store Maruta Sakeho and Beppu Sake Stand Meguri.
Looking at the menu, the lineup includes local sake and shochu, craft beer, natural wine, and original cocktails, all produced by people who know the area.We also have non-alcoholic cocktails and soft drinks, so even the whole family can enjoy it.It's open until 22pm, so you can relax here after dinner.
By the way, during the day it is a cafe where you can enjoy light meals such as coffee, cute sweets, and hot sandwiches.
I had so much fun after arriving that I ended up being late for bath time, but this is Beppu, Oita. There's no excuse not to enjoy the hot springs! However, the bath is a separate hot spring bath provided in the guest room, so there is no need to worry if you arrive late. There are no time limits, so you can come in as much as you like at any time you like.
The hot springs are said to be ``easy, simple springs that everyone can take a dip in.''Although it is not a sulfur spring, it does contain a small amount of sulfur, so it is said to have detox and skin beautifying effects!
By the way, the bathtub, which can accommodate two adults comfortably, is made of Shigaraki ware with a moist texture.Combined with the warm wooden atmosphere, the entire bathroom has a luxurious feel.
Full of amenities. In addition to basic items such as towels and toothbrushes, there were also skin care sets such as cleansers, facial foam, lotion, and emulsion. On this day, I put on the yukata provided in my room and went to sleep feeling like I was in a hot spring.
Since you have a hot spring in your room, it's time to take a bath as soon as you wake up in the morning. In the morning, the sun shines, the birds chirp, and the atmosphere is different from the night, making for a long bath.
After that, of course, it was breakfast time.Earthenware pot rice can be cooked fresh in 20 minutes on a BBQ grill or steamed for 3 minutes.Grilled fish should be placed on the grill at the same time as the rice is steaming, then heated and eaten. When you take off the lid of the earthenware pot, the aroma of freshly cooked rice fills the air, making you feel warm and happy in the morning! In addition, there were three types of rice accompaniments made with local eggs.At this time, it was pickled plums, whitebait, and kinpira, but the ingredients seem to change depending on the day.The TKG served with Cattleya soy sauce, a slightly sweet local soy sauce purveyed by Oita prefecture residents, was amazing!
“Steamy Town x Glamping” that I actually experienced. This time, I was able to have a valuable experience that combines the best of both a stay at a luxury hot spring inn and camping, where I was able to fully enjoy hot springs while fully enjoying the great outdoors. This is the perfect facility for people who think ``just being outdoors isn't enough'' or ``want to do something fun with hot springs, gourmet food, and more!''
All rooms are reserved in one building, and each building has separate toilets, hot springs, and dining areas, so there was almost no contact with other people.Another big appeal of Grancia Beppu Kannawa is that you can experience glamping in a safe and secure environment.
